John Wick’s Arsenal: What Would He Really Carry from Gundalorium?

One thing’s for sure: if John Wick’s around, shots are fired. One fan counted more than a thousand gunshots (and 439 known kills) across the franchise. We’re guessing you’re not a retired hitman— and you probably can’t afford to buy 28 guns at once. But it’s fun to nerd out over movie guns, and it doesn’t cost a dime. Let’s take a closer look at a few John Wick guns, and how their on-screen use stacks up to real life.

John Wick’s Arsenal (…Abridged)

This is a blog, not a book. Let’s stick to the “highlight reel” of some of the most popular on-screen guns from John Wick and their more practical counterparts.

Heckler & Koch P30L
This is John Wick’s primary handgun in the first movie. Its real-world cousin is a full-sized 9mm pistol, known for its reliability and ergonomic design.

Glock 34 (Taran Tactical Innovations Combat Master Package)
Prominent in John Wick: Chapter 2, a competition-ready 9mm pistol with a longer slide and barrel has a similar look and feel with improved accuracy.

TTI Dracarys Gen-12
Used by Wick in high-action, close-quarters combat scenarios; most of the flair is thanks to the ammunition used, rather than the gun itself. It’s similar to the AR-10, a semi-automatic shotgun favored by military and law enforcement agencies.

Sig Sauer MPX CarbineF
Featured in John Wick: Chapter 3, it’s a more AR-ish platform Pistol Caliber Carbine (PCC) that not only looks the part, but is a reliable, low-recoil range extender. Perfect for the vehicle and more urban environments. If you have deep pockets and no one to answer to at home, the TTI version of this is bonkers.

Swaps and Upgrades: Changes We’d Make

Sure, they look cool and are fun to watch. But when it comes to swapping out and upgrading John Wick’s guns for better options, we have a few suggestions [You know, in case Keanu drops by.]

First, we’d upgrade his rifle from a TTI TR-1 AR-15 (John Wick 3) to a BCM RECCE-16 MCMR or HK416 with EOTech EXPS3 + G33 magnifier. Our pick has better ergonomics and durability (which he clearly needs). Plus, its modern optics improve close-to-mid range engagement speed, and it has more modularity for attachments (like laser, IR, and light).

For ammunition, we suggest Wick use 5.56 NATO, or consider .300 Blackout for suppressed operations indoors.

When it comes to a sidearm, we agree with his upgrading the TTI Combat Master Glock 34 (John Wick 3) to the TTI Pit Viper used in JW4. It’s got more consistent trigger and recoil management. It’s Optics-ready (add Trijicon RMR or Holosun SCS for red dot). And it’s got faster shot-to-shot recovery.

For John Wick’s concealed carry, we’d swap in SIG Sauer P365 XMacro or Glock 43 X with Shield Arms 15-round mags. They’re compact, but high-capacity, fast draw from concealment and useful for close quarters, where he seems to find himself often.

John Wick either uses Karambit  or random knives for blades/melee weapons. It’s time for an upgrade to the RMJ Tactical Shrike Tomahawk or ShivWorks Clinch Pick. Tomahawk can breach, block, or neutralize— it’s just the kind of multi-purpose tool someone like John Wick needs. It’s another good choice for close quarters, and is more reliable in scenarios where there’s a lot of grappling.

And yep. We’ve thought about his other gear, too. What can we say? We’re those guys when it comes to guns in movies (or video games, for that matter).

Here are a few more of our picks for Wick:

  • Suppressors: Dead Air Sandman-S or Surefire SOCOM RC2 (for rifle); it’s rugged and QD compatible.
  • Ammo: Use barrier-blind rounds like Federal HST or Speer Gold Dot for pistols
  • Holsters: Tier 1 Concealed Axis Elite for pistol, for faster draw and retention
  • Light/Laser Combo: Streamlight TLR-7A or Surefire X300 Turbo + Mod Lite for rifle

Firearm FAQ: Guns, Weapons and Gear in John Wick

  1. Are the guns used in John Wick shown accurately? Is that really how they look, sound, etc. when fired? As movies go, the gunplay, mechanics, and usage in John Wick is generally accurate. Keanu Reeves reportedly trained for multiple hours a day with both martial arts and firearms experts to get that effortless look moviegoers love. Safety was also paramount for all aspects of the production, according to multiple sources and interviews. Check out some of his training here.
  2. Are all the guns and weapons in John Wick real? Yes, the guns depicted in John Wick are real guns. Everything you see him using is the prop version of a firearm that’s really made and used: some by civilians, others by law enforcement and military.
  3. Does Wick load and reload his guns correctly?  Yes, he generally handles, loads, discharges and reloads his firearms correctly. There are some exaggerations for dramatic effect.
  4. Is John Wick a responsible firearm owner? Well, let’s just say the John Wick universe has its own moral code (that doesn’t exactly square with state and local laws). Caveat aside, he uses all his firearms and weapons with the acumen of someone well-trained.
  5. Where can I try guns, gear, and ammo like the ones in John Wick? Shooting ranges, gun shows, and hobbyist meet-up groups are all opportunities to learn more about firearms, tactical gear, or ammunition you’re interested in. Keep in mind that different ranges, clubs, and events have different regulations: prepare before you go.
